MP Prem Dangal Questions Performance Measurement of Constitutional Body Officials

Kathmandu. UML MP Prem Dangal has raised the question of how to make the performance of constitutional body officials measurable.

During the parliamentary hearing of proposed Election Commissioner Guru Prasad Wagle, MP Dangal said that the person leading the Election Commission should have a clear and result-oriented vision. Dangal raised questions by drawing the attention of the proposed commissioner Wagle to the practical complexities and modern challenges in the electoral system.

MP Dangal said that the achievements of the officials appointed to constitutional bodies during their tenure should be reflected in data and results. He said, 'Your action plan is good, but how are these things measurable? On what basis will you be considered successful when your tenure ends?'

In the context of rapid scientific and technological development, he expressed interest in how technology would be used to make elections more transparent, fair, and trustworthy. 'This is the age of science, what is your concrete vision to eliminate rigging and doubts in elections using technology?' Dangal asked. Mentioning that the declining percentage of votes cast in elections is a challenge for democracy, Dangal inquired what incentive programs the commission would bring to increase the number of voters.

MP Dangal prominently raised the issue of voters who are far from their homes. 'How will you arrange for internal migrants, students who have come to the city for studies, and workers who are far from home for employment to vote in the place where their name is registered? Can't arrangements be made for them to vote from wherever they are?' he said.

MP Dangal also questioned the commission's plan to prevent misinformation and code of conduct violations spread through social media and digital platforms during elections.
