Protesters Block Highway in Siraha Demanding PM and Home Minister Resignation

Siraha. Locals protested in Purano Chok Choharwa of Golbazar Municipality-8, Siraha, against the incident where a person died from a police bullet in Devangaj Rural Municipality-3 Kapantaganj, Sunsari.

Locals blocked the East-West Highway demanding an impartial investigation into the incident.

During the protest, they also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Balen Shah and the Home Minister. They accused the government of killing a youth in Sunsari and demanded action against those who fired the bullets and an end to police repression.

Similarly, locals also blocked the road in Kaha of Dhangadhimai Municipality, informed the District Police Office Siraha. According to SP Basudev Pathak of the District Police Office Siraha, the protesters blocked the road for about half an hour.

The police stated that the road has been opened after discussions with the protesters. Om Prakash Mehta, 24, a resident of Devangaj-3, died from a police bullet while controlling a clash between two groups in Devangaj-3 Kapantaganj, Sunsari.

Protests have been held in various places including Sunsari over the same issue. The District Police Office Siraha has deployed police at various highway points in Siraha to prevent vandalism of any vehicles, informed the District Police Office Siraha.
