MP Kh ছত্রi Inquires About Voting Rights for Overseas Nepalis and Right to Recall

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Rajiv Kh ছত্রi has expressed interest in the possibility of arranging voting for Nepali citizens living abroad in the upcoming provincial assembly and local level elections. 

Speaking during the parliamentary hearing of proposed Election Commissioner Guru Prasad Wagle on Tuesday, MP Kh ছত্রi raised two important agendas for electoral reform—voting abroad and right to recall. 
MP Kh ছত্রi stated that the issue of giving voting rights to Nepalis living abroad should not be limited only to action plans. 

“You talked about giving Nepalis living abroad the opportunity to vote, but can it be ensured that they will be able to vote in the upcoming provincial assembly and local level elections? What is the commission's preparation and schedule for this?” Kh ছত্রi said. 

He further clarified, “The local level elections are approaching, in such a situation, what is your concrete plan to connect Nepalis living abroad using technology or any other fast medium?” 

Stating that elected representatives must be accountable to the public in a democracy, MP Kh ছত্রi inquired about the provision of 'right to recall,' the right to recall representatives who do not work. 

He said, “What is your opinion and plan regarding the implementation of the legal provision of the right to recall, which allows the public to recall elected representatives if they do not work according to public expectations? Is it possible to include this in our electoral system?”
