India Announce Squad for Test Series Against Sri Lanka, Saransh Jain Earns Maiden Call-Up

New Delhi. The Indian team has been announced for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Off-spinning all-rounder Saransh Jain has made his first place in the team. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has returned to the team. His and Sai Sudharsan's presence will depend on the fitness clearance from the BCCI's Centre of Excellence. Ravindra Jadeja, who has recovered from tennis elbow, is included in the team. Washington Sundar, who suffered a hamstring injury during the ODI series against England, is not available for the first Test. Due to Sundar's injury, the door has opened for 33-year-old Jain from Madhya Pradesh to the team. In the second four-day match during India 'A's tour of Sri Lanka recently, he scored an unbeaten 70 and took 6 wickets. In 54 first-class matches, Jain has scored 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75 and taken 188 wickets at an average of 27.30. The first Test of the series will start from August 15 in Galle and the second Test will start from August 23 in Colombo's SSC. Before the series, the Indian team will play a four-day practice match in Colombo from August 7. This is India's first series in the World Test Championship cycle after suffering a 2-0 defeat against South Africa at home in November. Earlier, India had drawn the five-match series against England 2-2 and defeated the West Indies 2-0 at home. India are fifth and Sri Lanka are sixth in the World Test Championship standings.
