Modi Announces Task Force to Reform India's Exam System

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday that a special task force would be formed to reform the country's examination system. This announcement came a day after the education minister in his administration resigned.

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), active on social media, had gathered thousands of protesters, especially students, at the Jantar Mantar site in the capital New Delhi. This had become one of the largest anti-government demonstrations in India in recent years.

In a video posted on X, Prime Minister Modi said, 'The government has decided to form a 'high-powered task force for examination system reforms'. The task force will be led by Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of the Indian technology company 'Infosys'. The task force will focus on examination reforms.'

The demonstration, which had reached its peak over weeks against examination irregularities and other problems of youth in India, ended on Saturday with the resignation of the education minister and the government accepting other key demands.

Dozens of municipal workers were deployed at the protest site on Sunday to clean up the area used by the protesters. They cleaned up the garbage that the crowd had been singing protest songs, chanting slogans, and making sharp graffiti in just a few hours.

In a video message, Prime Minister Modi said, 'Our examination system must be reliable, transparent, and it must make maximum use of technology.'

'The government will work to ensure the credibility of upcoming examinations as soon as possible,' he said.
