Clash in Sunsari's Devanaganj Leaves One Dead, Several Injured

Kathmandu. A clash has occurred between two communities in Kaptanganj, Ward No. 3 of Devanaganj Rural Municipality in Sunsari. A death has occurred in the clash that started around 10:30 last night. DSP Chandra Khadka of the District Police Office, Sunsari, told Ratopati that Omprakash Mehta, a resident of Kaptanganj, has died. DSP Khadka said that the police fired 3 rounds in the air to control the situation. Armed Police Force personnel fired 7 rounds. It has not been confirmed which weapon Mehta was shot with. Police Inspector Rakesh Rai and 10 police personnel, along with 5 armed police personnel, were injured in the clash. The dispute between Hindus and Muslims started over playing loud DJ music at a temple in Kaptanganj. Security officials say that the dispute escalated further over the removal of a Muslim community flag placed on an electric pole in the area and the hoisting of a Hindu flag. 9 local residents were injured in the clash.
