EV Micro Bus Driver Dies, Six Injured in Kathmandu Traffic Accident

Kathmandu. The driver of an EV (electric) micro bus died and six others were injured in a traffic accident in front of the Maharajgunj Police Station in Kathmandu on Friday (today) evening.

According to the District Police Range Kathmandu, at around 7:15 PM today, an EV micro with registration number Bagmati Province 03-001 Ja 0814, traveling from Basundhara Chowk towards Chabahil, rear-ended other vehicles moving in the same direction. Ramkrishna Hawal, 56, the micro driver who was seriously injured in the accident, a resident of Sindi Rural Municipality Ward No. 5, Lamjung, and currently residing in Kopan, Kathmandu, was rushed to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for immediate treatment, where doctors declared him dead at 8:10 PM during treatment.

According to the police, five of the six injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and one at Metro Hospital. Among the injured are Saroj Dhungana, 37, driver of EV scooter with registration number Ba Pra 02 056 Pa 6355, a resident of Melamchi Municipality Ward No. 6, Sindhupalchok, and currently residing in Kopan, and his wife Binita Dhakal, 35, who was riding pillion. Saroj sustained an eye injury, and Binita sustained injuries to her right leg and left ear, with both in stable condition. Similarly, Surya Magar, 33, driver of a motorcycle with registration number Ba 55 Pa 1078, from Udayapur and currently residing in Dhumbaraahi, and Gyan Bahadur Sunuwar, 61, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, were also injured. Surya sustained injuries to his right elbow and waist, and Gyan Bahadur sustained injuries to his left hand and left leg, with both in stable condition. Ganesh Bahadur Shahi, 35, a passenger in a bus with registration number Ba 4 Kha 7824, from Kalikot and currently residing in Kopan, was also injured. He sustained an ear injury and is in stable condition. Purna Giri, 44, a passenger in a taxi with registration number Ba Pra 01-002 Ja 9502, residing in Tokha Municipality Ward No. 6, sustained a head injury. Giri, who is in moderate condition, is undergoing treatment at Metro Hospital. Police stated that all other injured are undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and are in stable condition.

Ten vehicles moving on the road were damaged due to the collision by the speeding micro. The front of the colliding micro is completely damaged. Similarly, the rear parts of a rented bus with registration number Ba 4 Kha 7824, an electric office Tata bus with registration number Ba 1 Ya 2286, an EV scooter with registration number Ba Pra 02 056 Pa 6355, and a motorcycle with registration number Ba 55 Pa 1078 were damaged.

Motorcycles with registration numbers Ba 71 Pa 2969 and Ba 64 Pa 3311 were also damaged in the accident, while the rear parts of a taxi with registration number Ba 2 Ja 2207, a taxi with registration number Ba Pra 01-002 Ja 9502, and an EV micro with registration number Ba Pra 01-034 Cha 8864 were damaged. According to the police, further investigation into the incident is underway.
