Activist Vedika KC Investigated Outside Custody

Kathmandu. Police will investigate activist Vedika KC outside of custody. KC, who was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and released on bail in the evening, is being questioned by investigation officers from the Cyber Bureau. Her statement is not yet complete.

The Cyber Bureau has launched an investigation against her on charges of making baseless accusations against storyteller Radhika Dasi in a television interview with journalist Prakash Subedi. Investigation officials say that Dasi filed a complaint against KC with the police.

The interview has been broadcast on YouTube. SP Dilip Giri of the Cyber Bureau told Ratopati that KC is being investigated while on bail. He said, ‘We have not kept her in custody; she is being investigated on bail.’

Vedika identifies herself as an activist who exposes wrong practices within religion. Originally from Biratnagar, 22-year-old Vedika is a local of Biratnagar. SP Giri stated that investigations have revealed she committed offenses related to electronic crimes through social media.

She has studied up to the intermediate level (plus two). She has been raising questions through social media against traditional healers, shamans, and superstitions. She has been claiming to have fought a battle against superstition by labeling traditional healers, shamans, and spiritual mediums as ‘fraudsters’.

She had made personal accusations against storyteller Dasi. According to the Electronic Transactions Act, it is illegal to make baseless accusations against anyone through electronic means. Legal provisions state that such accusations will be prosecuted under the Electronic Transactions Act of 2063 BS.
