Majority of Boys in Jayendu Child Reform Home Suffer from Skin Infections

NEPALGUNJ. Most of the boys residing in the Jayendu Child Reform Home in Asamanpur, Dudhwa Rural Municipality-6, Banke, have been found to be suffering from skin infection. This was revealed during a health check-up conducted by Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj, on the occasion of its 136th anniversary through a health camp organized today.

Out of the 173 boys in the reform home, 98 received specialist health check-ups and free medicines at the camp organized by Bheri Hospital in coordination and collaboration with Advocacy Forum Nepal and Jayendu Child Reform Home. Eight individuals have been sent to Bheri Hospital for further treatment after the health check-up.

Psychosocial counseling and reproductive health counseling services were provided at the camp. During the health check-up, the highest number of patients were found to have skin diseases. Among the 98 boys examined, 73 had skin diseases, 14 had medicine-related problems, 12 had ear, nose, and throat problems, five had mental health issues, and four had dental problems, according to the health team. Some boys had more than one health problem, doctors said.

According to skin and venereal disease specialist Dr. Subash Poudel, most of the boys had infectious skin diseases like scabies and ringworm. He stated that further improvements are needed in the living conditions, sanitation, and personal health management at the reform home.

ENT specialist Dr. Dinesh Chaudhary said that some boys had problems like ear discharge and hearing loss, while dental specialist Dr. Vivek Kumar Mahato said that problems like tooth decay, gum swelling, and tooth sensitivity were more common. According to Consultant Physician Dr. Sanket Risal, boys with stomach pain, weakness, and chest pain were also found.

Specialist services in medicine, skin and venereal diseases, mental health, pediatrics, dental, ear, nose, and throat, psychosocial counseling, and reproductive health were provided at the camp.

On the occasion, Bheri Hospital's Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Naveen Darnal pledged that regular monthly health camps would now be conducted at the Jayendu Child Reform Home as per the prior agreement with the Banke District Court.

Land donor and social worker Jaykesh Singh pointed out the need to develop the child reform home as a center for actual reform and rehabilitation. Senior Provincial Coordinator and program operator of Advocacy Forum Nepal, Advocate Basanta Gautam, said that children involved in legal disputes should also be able to fully enjoy the basic rights guaranteed by the constitution and child rights laws, including education and health.
