Opposition Parties Call for United Front Against Current Government

Kathmandu. Four opposition leftist parties have concluded that they should create pressure on the current government led by Balen Shah from all sides. The leaders participating in a discussion program on 'The Role of Leftist Parties in the Current Political Situation' organized in Kathmandu on the occasion of the 48th Pushpalal Memorial Day on Friday expressed the view that they should move forward with a common strategy against the government.

Former Prime Minister and coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', said that political parties that supported the constitution have suffered great losses due to not understanding the strategy of foreign reactionary forces in time. Mentioning that a serious review of the events of August 23 and 24 last year is necessary, he commented that political parties have become weak by focusing on power after the formation of the constitution.

'After the constitution was formed, we got busy forming governments daily, running the provinces and local levels, and changing ministers and prime ministers. That's where we faltered. But our enemies made big strategic plans. We did not understand the plan to push the country towards destruction in a single day. We could not accumulate strength against their strategic plan,' Prachanda said.

He stated that leftist and democratic forces should unite to encircle the current government. For that, he mentioned the need for a common minimum program and said that reactionary forces should be encircled from all sides.

'We must be ready to fight for national independence. For that, we need to create a common minimum program. The rights of the poor, laborers, farmers, and oppressed communities of Nepal are being snatched away, and the public must be organized and mobilized against it,' he said. 'We will fight in the parliament, fight on the streets, and fight in the upcoming elections. We will encircle from all sides. They have taught us, but we do not fight like them. We will fight in our own way. But they have taught us that it can be overturned in a single day.'

In the program, former Prime Minister and co-coordinator of the CPN, Madhav Kumar Nepal, commented that the destruction during the Janji movement was a criminal act and urged the government to take action against those involved. He emphasized that not only leftist but also democratic forces should unite to protect the constitution, democracy, and republic.

'Leftists also need to introspect about the past. Where did we falter? We need to improve our lifestyle, conduct, and behavior. Just because we go into power doesn't mean we have to bow down to foreigners. We should accept good work by understanding the interests of foreigners. Let's have a new debate about nationality, democracy, and people's livelihoods. Let's review seriously and move forward from a new beginning,' Nepal said.

Former Foreign Minister and UML leader Pradeep Gyawali said that if the public is not vigilant, it will not be possible to prevent adverse and regressive amendments to the constitution.

'Let's hope the National Assembly will provide checks and balances. But if the public is not vigilant, it will not be possible to prevent adverse and regressive amendments to the constitution,' he said.

He claimed that the government's recent activities have increased the risk of the country getting caught in a geopolitical vortex. He stated that the continuous visits of Western military officials, 'Free Tibet' related activities, programs related to the Dalai Lama, and the Prime Minister's statement in parliament have pushed the country into a complex geopolitical situation.

General Secretary of CPN Masal, Mohan Bikram Singh, said that leftist forces are also responsible for the undesirable situation created in the country.

'The role of leftist forces is also very responsible behind the undesirable situation created in the country today,' he said. 'How successful have we been in using the people's trust correctly? Everyone must introspect about this. There is also a need to change one's character and working style.'

He emphasized the need to unite against the fight against American imperialist forces, which has become a matter of life and death for Nepalis, and in favor of world peace.

In the program, Hemant Prakash Wali, spokesperson for the Revolutionary Communist Party, said that patriotic leftist forces should hold a political conference and announce struggle programs to form an alternative independent coalition government against the Balen government.

'We had gone into government in the past keeping the army, police, judiciary, and bureaucracy the same. Now imperialism has captured Nepal's army and overthrown the government using Ravi and Balen (Rastriya Swatantra Party) as a mask, due to which the question of national independence has arisen,' Wali said.
