Fugitive Arrested in Myagdi After 19 Years

Myagdi. An accused in a murder case, Gun Bahadur Purja, who had escaped from the Myagdi jail during the then armed conflict, has been arrested. The police arrested Purja, 45, of Dagnam, Raghuganga Rural Municipality-4, Myagdi, late Friday night.

Purja, who was in the District Jail Myagdi for pre-trial detention, had escaped on March 7, 2060 BS during the Myagdi attack. The District Court Myagdi had sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment in a murder case. Due to escaping from jail, he has 19 years and 7 months of imprisonment left to serve.

A police team led by Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina from the District Police Office Myagdi arrested him on Friday morning. He was arrested while hiding in a hut in the high-altitude area about 5 kilometers away from Raghuganga Rural Municipality-4.

The arrested Purja has been brought to the District Police Office Myagdi and necessary legal proceedings have been initiated against him, the police said.
