7,251 Fugitive Defendants Arrested Nationwide; 2,936 Years of Jail Time Served, Rs 724.7 Million Fines Collected

Kathmandu. From last Baishakh to the end of Ashad, 7,251 fugitive defendants from various cases were arrested nationwide. According to the Central Police News Room, 48 were arrested from the Central Investigation Bureau, 1,232 from the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, 960 from Koshi Province, 2,117 from Madhesh, 760 from Bagmati, 452 from Gandaki, 1,181 from Lumbini, 187 from Karnali, and 314 from Sudurpaschim.

During that period, the execution of sentences for the arrested defendants amounted to 2,936 years, 4 months, and 25 days of imprisonment. Additionally, fines totaling Rs 724,712,000 were collected from them. Central Police Spokesperson Abinarayan Kafle informed that the execution of judgments and the arrest of fugitive convicts have been given high priority.

He stated that a special campaign has been launched to arrest defendants who are absconding after being convicted in cases such as murder, drug offenses, rape, banking offenses, and fraud.
