Measles Outbreak Continues in Bangladesh with 6 More Deaths, Total Toll Reaches 803

Dhaka. The measles outbreak in Bangladesh is still not under control, with 6 more deaths reported. With this, the total number of confirmed measles cases and deaths due to symptoms similar to measles has reached 803.

According to the details released by the Directorate General of Health Services of Bangladesh on Wednesday, 133 more people have been confirmed with measles infection in the last 24 hours. The health authorities have been releasing regular outbreak-related details since March 15.

So far, the number of deaths from confirmed measles infection is 95, while the number of deaths due to symptoms similar to measles is 708. Thus, adding both groups, the total number of deaths has reached 803. The highest number of deaths based on symptoms has occurred in Dhaka Division, where 307 people have lost their lives.  

After that, 105 deaths have been reported in Sylhet, 90 in Rajshahi, 56 in Chittagong, 43 in Barisal, 67 in Mymensingh, 31 in Khulna, and 9 in Rangpur, according to the health authorities. In the last 24 hours, 904 people with symptoms similar to measles have reached hospitals across the country for treatment. Of these, 834 have been admitted. Among the admitted patients, the largest number, 288, are from Dhaka Division.  

Similarly, 35 in Rajshahi, 71 in Sylhet, 213 in Chittagong, 116 in Barisal, 54 in Mymensingh, 51 in Khulna, and 6 in Rangpur have been admitted to hospitals. So far, 103,078 people have been admitted to hospitals across the country due to measles. Of these, 99,294 have returned home after treatment.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, the number of patients suspected of measles across the country has reached 120,352, while the number of confirmed infected cases through laboratory testing has reached 14,841.
