Over 40 Dead in Eastern Afghanistan Flash Floods, UN Reports

 Kathmandu. More than 40 people have died in a flash flood in eastern Afghanistan following heavy rains, the United Nations has stated. Dozens of people have been injured in the flood, and some are still missing, local media ‘Tolo News’ reported on Wednesday.

According to the United Nations, the flood has caused extensive damage to houses, public infrastructure, and commercial property. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas.

The United Nations and its humanitarian aid partners are assessing the needs of the affected areas and mobilizing emergency assistance. Temporary shelter, food, health services, essential household items, and psychosocial support for the affected families have been prioritized, it has been stated.

Humanitarian organizations are coordinating with local authorities to deliver relief supplies. However, the United Nations has stated that it is facing difficulties in delivering aid to some of the more affected communities due to damaged roads and difficult geographical conditions.
