Congress Leader Shrestha Urges Party Unity Amidst National Crisis

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Shrestha has urged the leadership to strengthen party unity at a time when the country and democracy are in crisis. Speaking at a BP Smriti Diwas program, leader Shrestha emphasized that the group that emerged from the special general convention should move forward by including all sides. 

Leader Shrestha stated that their demands for resolving internal dissatisfaction within the party are very simple. "We have only asked you to connect the friends who were dissolved through a special general convention," he said, "Why is the leadership not ready to fulfill such a small demand? Why is there stinginess in uniting the party at this time when the country and democracy are in crisis?"

Expressing concern over the current state of the country's constitutional bodies and the judiciary, Shrestha commented that the core spirit of the constitution is in crisis. "What is the condition of the country's judiciary and constitutional bodies now? Are they able to work impartially and independently?" Shrestha questioned, "It is the Congress's main responsibility to protect the soul of the constitution. However, only the leadership that came from the special general convention, keeping everyone else out, can protect it."

Recalling past conflicts and crises, he mentioned that historical events have caused great damage to the country. "The burning of our houses on August 24 was a normal thing, but the whole country burned," Shrestha said. 

He stated that there is no alternative to the Congress uniting to institutionalize Nepal's democracy and bring development and prosperity to the country.
