Progressive Democratic Party Calls for Ideological Synthesis of BP Koirala and Pushpa Lal Shrestha

Kathmandu. The Progressive Democratic Party (PrLoPa) has emphasized the need to advance a new political debate by connecting the ideological legacy of the two great personalities of the country's democratic movement, BP Koirala and Pushpa Lal Shrestha, with contemporary realities.

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday on the occasion of the death anniversary of BP Koirala, Nepal's first elected Prime Minister and proponent of democratic socialism, and the death anniversary of Pushpa Lal Shrestha, founding general secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal, PrLoPa put forward this view.

In the statement issued by Rajman Tamang, head of the party's central publicity department, BP and Pushpa Lal have been portrayed as inspirational figures who, despite representing different political streams, carried the common goals of democratic transformation and national interest.

The statement reads, 'BP put forward the vision of political freedom and democratic socialism, while Pushpa Lal laid the foundation for the struggle against class exploitation and the joint movement of left-democratic forces. In today's era of federal democratic republic, it is the main responsibility of today's generation not only to remember their ideas but also to transform them into practice.'
PrLoPa has mentioned that although democracy has been achieved in the country, issues of good governance, a production-oriented economy, the future of youth, and social justice still remain serious challenges. 'In such a situation, there is a need to creatively embrace BP's democratic socialism and Pushpa Lal's left/socialist perspective and create a new ideological synthesis according to the needs of the 21st century,' the statement said.

The party interpreted democracy and socialism not as opposing but as complementary values, claiming that economic justice, social equality, and the rule of law are the basis of a prosperous Nepal. PrLoPa believes that the death anniversary should not be limited to mere formality and offering garlands but should be taken as an opportunity for self-reflection and a new resolve for nation-building.
The party has also heartily called upon all democratic, left, socialist, and progressive forces to be inspired by the ideals, sacrifices, and ethics of BP and Pushpa Lal and unite in building a prosperous and self-reliant Nepal.
