Nepali Congress Leader Mohan Bahadur Basnet Calls for New Party Formation

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Mohan Bahadur Basnet has said that a national gathering should be announced and the process of forming a new party should be initiated. He said this while addressing a gathering organized by the establishment-fringe group of the Nepali Congress in Kathmandu on Wednesday, on the occasion of BP Smriti Diwas.

Leader Basnet emphasized that it is too late to unite the party and a new process of party formation should be started. He stated that if the Nepali Congress is weakened, democracy will end and the country will be in danger of a catastrophe, urging timely caution. Commenting that Nepali Congress and democrats should not be sacrificed to Gagan Thapa, he said that a national gathering should be organized immediately to reach a conclusion.

"If the work of forming the party had been done two months ago, we would not have to extend the time month after month now," said leader Basnet. "We have made shortcomings and delays. That is why our friends are forced to seek their existence within the party."

Speaking about the state of the sister organizations, he added, "Even in 12-15 years, the convention does not happen. They are about to become old, but they are still called Tarun Dal. Who will take the responsibility after this?"

Stating that if the Nepali Congress is weakened, the country's democracy will be in danger, he further said, "If the Nepali Congress is weakened, not only will democracy in the country be in danger, but it is also serious as to whose hands the country will fall into. Keeping that in mind, the gathering of all seven provinces took place today. We had announced a national gathering immediately after that, but that is also being delayed."

Emphasizing that the date of the central gathering should be announced today, he said, "We are not going to split the party, we are going to build another strong party. We will not let the Nepali Congress and democrats be sacrificed to Gagan Thapa. It is better to be a worker of a strong party than to be a leader of a weak party."
