Heavy Rains Cause Landslides, Block Major Highways Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Due to continuous rains, floods and landslides have blocked various major highways of the country. As of 6:10 AM on July 4, major road sections in Kosi and Bagmati provinces have been obstructed due to floods and landslides.

In Kosi Province, traffic is operating one-way on the Mid-Hill Highway in Bokhim, Bhojpur Municipality 5, due to floods. The Mechi Highway in Rajduwali, Ilam, the Mid-Hill Highway in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi 6 Mamkha, Khotang, and the Siddhi Charan Highway in Katari 11 Hardeni, Udayapur, are completely blocked due to landslides.

In Bagmati Province too, many roads have been affected by floods and landslides. The BP Highway is completely blocked due to a landslide in Phintali, Roshi Rural Municipality 9, Kavre, while the Khurkot-Nepalethok-Katunjebesi section has been closed for vehicular movement due to potential floods. The Kanti Lokpath, connecting Hetauda-Thingan-Bagmati-Lalitpur in Makwanpur, has also been closed for vehicular operation until further notice due to potential floods and landslides.

Similarly, the Arniko Highway is completely shut down due to landslides in Jirokilo, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality 4, and Kodari, Ward No. 2, Sindhupalchok. The Prithvi Highway is completely blocked due to a landslide in Phisling, Ichhakamana Rural Municipality 3, Chitwan.

In Dhading, the Prithvi Lok Marg has been opened one-way after removing debris from Timrangkhani, Benighat Rorang 10, but the road is completely blocked due to a landslide in Jawang Khola. In Rasuwa, although there was a landslide in Bokejhunda, Gosainkunda 6, the Pasang Lhamu road section has been brought into one-way operation. Efforts are underway to clear the blocked roads.
