Bagmati River Exceeds Warning Level at Gauri Ghat, Residents Urged to Stay Alert

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the flow of the Bagmati River at the Gauri Ghat water level monitoring center in Kathmandu has reached above the warning level. As the water level has crossed the warning level, the department has urged residents of riverine and flood-prone areas to exercise high vigilance until Monday morning.

According to the department, the water level of the Bagmati River at Gauri Ghat has reached two decimal four one meters, which is above the warning level of two decimal one meters. As the river flow is on the rise, the department has requested special caution in the flood-prone areas around the river.

According to Binod Parajuli, a flood expert at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the water level of the Bagmati River is considered to have crossed the danger level if it reaches two decimal seven meters. "Currently, the river flow is increasing. The Bagmati River has already crossed the warning level in the Gauri Ghat area. Residents in flood-prone areas near the river should exercise high vigilance until Monday morning," he said.

The department has also urged citizens living on the river banks, in flood-prone settlements, and in lower riparian areas to avoid unnecessary movement, move to safe places if necessary, and regularly follow the latest flood and landslide information and warnings issued by the department.
