Roads Affected by Rain, Landslides Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Continuous rain, floods, and landslides in various parts of the country have affected the main highways. According to the report until 6:00 AM, many road sections in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are completely or partially obstructed. 

In Koshi Province, due to floods in Bhojpur, the Bokhim section of the Mid-Hill Highway is only one-way operational. Similarly, in the Rajduwali area of Ilam, the Mechi Highway is completely obstructed due to continuous rain. However, alternative routes are available in both these locations. 

Bagmati Province appears to be the most affected. On the BP Highway in Kavre, vehicle operation has been restricted at night due to the risk of potential floods. In various places along the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur, landslides have made the road conditions chaotic. 

The Kanti Lokpath is completely obstructed at Bakaiya-11, while the Bhimphedi section is only one-way operational. Similarly, the Arniko Highway in Bhote Koshi-4, Sindhupalchok, is completely blocked due to landslides. 

In Gandaki Province, the Nayapul-Ghandruk road section in Kaski and the Mid-Hill Highway (Inarwater) in Baglung are only one-way operational due to rain and landslides. 

In Lumbini Province, the Saljhandi-Dhorpatan road section in Arghakhanchi is completely closed due to landslides. In Gulmi district, traffic is only one-way operational at three different locations on the Kaligandaki Corridor and Rudrabeni road sections due to landslides. 

Efforts are underway to clear the obstructed roads, but continuous rain and the risk of landslides are hindering the work. With many roads only partially open, traffic jams and risks are likely to increase. 

Police and the Department of Roads have requested travelers to check the status of the concerned roads before embarking on their journeys, use alternative routes if possible, or avoid non-essential travel.
