Flood Forecast Bulletin Issued for Thursday; Moderate Risk in Small Rivers

Kathmandu. According to the flood forecast bulletin issued by the Flood Forecasting Department for Thursday, the flow of Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali and their tributaries was below the alert level at the morning measurement.  

Similarly, the flow of Kankai, Kamala, Babai, Eastern Rapti and Western Rapti rivers is also in a safe condition, i.e., below the alert level.

Although the flow in the major rivers is normal, there is a moderate risk of flooding in the small rivers today. According to the department, the flow of small rivers flowing through Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Bhojpur, Khotang, Udayapur and Okhaldhunga will increase significantly today.  

Similarly, the flow in small rivers flowing through Sindhuli, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Gorkha, Lamjung, Tanahu, Kaski, Syangja, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Rupandehi, Palpa, Banke, Bardiya and surrounding districts is also estimated to increase significantly. There is a possibility of moderate risk of flash floods in these areas.

The department has also published the forecast for the next two days. According to this, there is a possibility of sudden increase in the flow of some small rivers flowing through all seven provinces on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.  

The department has warned, 'There is a moderate risk of flash floods in those rivers.' The department has requested the residents living in the riverine areas to be alert.
