Banks Must Update Account Holders' National Identity Card Numbers

Kathmandu. Banks and financial institutions will have to update account holders' national identity card numbers. Banks will have to obtain updated details of the national identity card from customers who opened accounts before the national identity card was made mandatory.

As per the directive of Nepal Rastra Bank, licensed banks and financial institutions will have to obtain a self-declaration of whether they have the national identity card details or not through mobile application or other suitable means by the end of Ashwin.

In the case of Nepali citizens who have obtained the national identity card, the concerned account holder's national identity card or national identity card number must be obtained and updated.

However, in the case of Nepali citizens who have not yet obtained such an identity card, they will be informed to obtain and update such identity card number within 6 months, i.e., by the end of Poush.

However, Nepal Rastra Bank has clarified that such an identity card will not be mandatory for opening accounts for children under 16 years of age.
