Youth Attempts Self-Immolation in Rautahat

Rautahat. A youth has attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol on his own body in Rautahat.

Police said that 28-year-old Gautam Kumar Sahani of Gamhariya, Garuda Municipality-9, set himself on fire by pouring petrol on his body around 1 am on Tuesday night.

According to DSP Shankar Prasad Acharya, chief of the Garuda Area Police Office, Gautam had been suffering from mental stress and depression for a few days. He attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol from his own motorcycle onto his body.

Immediately after the incident, family members took him to Better Nepal Hospital, Garuda for treatment. The Area Police Office, Garuda informed that after primary treatment at the hospital, he was referred to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in Kathmandu for further treatment.

According to District Police Spokesperson DSP Basanta Gautam, about 31.5 percent of Sahani's body from the neck down has been burned. 

Upon receiving information about the incident from the hospital around 4 am, a team led by ASI Manoj Das from Birta Police Post reached the scene and began necessary investigation. Police said that he was sent to Kirtipur Burn Hospital for further treatment at 4:15 am.

The District Police Office, Rautahat informed that further investigation into the incident is underway.

Sahani used to operate a small thatched hotel near Jhajh Pul in Garuda Bazaar. He used to support his family and three children from that business.
