Municipal Police Presence Reduced After Self-Immolation Incident

Kathmandu. A few days ago, Kathmandu Metropolitan City's municipal police were seen regularly deployed on the streets, controlling disorganized parking. However, after the incident related to Ganesh Nepali, who attempted self-immolation and later died, the presence of municipal police on the streets has significantly decreased.

After the death of Ganesh Nepali, the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed an investigation committee and is questioning the metropolitan police. A municipal police employee stated that due to concerns about increased attacks or security risks on municipal police after the incident, they have not been regularly deployed on street duty for some time.

According to him, 'Since there is a risk to life, we are not currently performing regular street duty.'

With the municipal police not visible on the streets, disorganized parking has started increasing again in various parts of Kathmandu. In particular, ride-sharing drivers are seen parking vehicles on the roadside, waiting for passengers for a long time, and occupying the road while using mobile phones.
