Girl Drowns While Swimming in Dam in Ghorahi

Dang. A girl has died today while swimming in a dam built for irrigation in Ghorahi, Dang. The deceased has been identified as 10-year-old Ashika Gharti, a resident of Laxmipur, Ghorahi Sub-metropolis-4, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dr. Hem Bahadur KC, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Dang. According to him, the girl who drowned in the man-made dam built for irrigation near Laxmipur Chowk was studying in class 4 at Sunpur Community School. This morning, Ashika had gone to school from home with her sister. While returning home with her sister, she went into the dam about 500 meters from her house to swim, and upon receiving the news that she had drowned and gone missing while swimming, security personnel were deployed to search for the girl. According to the police, a joint team of the Nepali Army and police deployed for the search recovered the girl's body from the pond in the afternoon.
