Five Arrested for Embezzling Funds by Promising Foreign Employment

Kathmandu. Police have arrested 5 people on charges of embezzling funds by luring them with attractive salaries for foreign employment and sending them to various countries. A police team from Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested them from various places in Kathmandu. Those arrested include Wangdi Lama, 42, from Sindhupalchok, residing in Gokarneshwor, Kathmandu; Lalit Bahadur Tamang, 38, from Ramechhap, residing in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur; Santoshi Lama, 34, from Dhading, residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16; Ramdas Maharjan, 41, from Chandragiri; and Sarib Giri, 29, from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15. Police have stated that among those arrested, Wangdi defrauded one victim of Rs 50,000 by promising to send them to Azerbaijan, Lalit Bahadur defrauded one victim of Rs 250,000 by promising to send them to Kosovo, and Santoshi defrauded one victim of Rs 1,500,000 by promising to send them to Spain. Similarly, complaints were filed that Ramdas took Rs 4,500,000 from 7 victims promising to send them to UAE and Sarib took Rs 2,000,000 from 1 victim promising to send them to Canada and became out of contact. Based on the complaints of the victims, police arrested Wangdi from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4 on Sunday, Lalit Bahadur from Kathmandu-12 and Santoshi from Kathmandu-15 on Saturday. Similarly, Ramdas was arrested from Kathmandu-14 on Friday and Sarib from Kathmandu-15 on Monday, police said. All those arrested have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, Kathmandu for necessary investigation and legal action.
