International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Observed

Kathmandu. Today is International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This day is being celebrated with the objective of raising awareness about the serious impact of drugs on society.

The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on December 7, 1987, and started celebrating this day every year on June 26. This day is celebrated as a commitment to strengthen international cooperation and joint efforts with the goal of building an international society free from drug abuse.

According to the United Nations, the use of drugs and the number of drugs available in the market have been continuously increasing worldwide in recent decades. The production, seizure, and use of cocaine are also increasing, while the illegal trade of synthetic drugs, which can be produced at low cost and are difficult to detect, is also expanding.
