Election Commission Adds 181,367 New Voters in Three Months

Kathmandu. The Election Commission, which has started preparations for the local level elections, has stated that 181,367 new voters have been added in the last three months. These voters have been added after the last House of Representatives election.

After the said election, 18,622 applications for voter list updates were received, informed Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai. In the last House of Representatives election, 18,903,689 voters were registered.

The commission is carrying out activities such as updating the voter list, and reviewing polling stations and polling centers for the upcoming local level elections, he said.

Discussions were held with the officials of the commission on June 18 regarding the preparations for the local level elections at the meeting of the National Assembly's Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee on Asar 4.

Suggestions were presented on announcing the election at least six months before the scheduled date of the election, providing the necessary budget on time, filling the vacant posts in the commission and subordinate bodies, upgrading the voter list management system, printing ballot papers with modern equipment, and developing an effective mechanism to prevent the flow of misinformation.
