Weather Forecast: Extreme Heat in Tarai, Rain in Mountains

Kathmandu. According to the weather forecast of the major cities of the country released by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, some parts of the country will experience extreme heat, while some cities in the hilly and mountainous regions are likely to receive rain.

Today afternoon, extreme heat is expected in the Terai regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces. Heatwave or 'loo' is predicted in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj, where the maximum temperature could reach 38 to 40 and 39 to 41 degrees Celsius respectively. Similarly, Birendranagar, Ghorahi, and Bhairahawa will also be very hot today. Simara is expected to have partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, with a zero percent chance of rain in these areas. During the night, the weather in Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Bhairahawa, and Simara will be mostly clear.

In the hilly and mountainous regions, there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms this afternoon. Moderate rain with thunderstorms is predicted in the federal capital Kathmandu, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, and Dharan. The probability of rain in these areas is 40 percent. Taplejung has a 60 percent chance of moderate rain this afternoon. Similarly, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jumla, Jomsom, Janakpur, and Jiri are expected to receive light rain with thunderstorms this afternoon.

Looking at the weather conditions tonight, Dadeldhura, Biratnagar, and Taplejung are likely to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms. Kathmandu, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Jomsom, Dharan, and Jiri will have light rain at night. Jumla and Janakpur will have partly cloudy skies at night, but there is no possibility of rain, according to the weather forecast.
