Nepal Issues Postage Stamp Honoring Shanti Mishra, Founder of First Modern Library

Kathmandu. The Postal Service Department has published a postage stamp in honor of Shanti Mishra, the founder of the country's first modern library.

On Tuesday, in a program organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications, Secretary Laxmikumari Basnet affixed the seal on the first-day cover of the said stamp.

The postage stamp has been published in memory of the contribution of Shanti Mishra, who played an important role in the development of Nepal's first modern library, established in 2019 BS.

At the program, Secretary Basnet said that Shanti Mishra's dedication and hard work were decisive in giving a modern form to the Tribhuvan University Central Library, established in 2016 BS. She appreciated the Postal Service Department for publishing the stamp in honor of women's contribution.

Shanti Mishra's husband Narayan Mishra narrated the remembrance of his late wife's dedication to library development. Informing Tribhuvan University, he said, "Shanti had the idea of making the library vast, so she left teaching and chose the library."

Tribhuvan University Central Library Chairman Sagarraj Subedi said that the foundation of the current central library was established by Shanti Mishra's contribution. He informed that the library currently has more than four thousand books and their transformation into an e-library is ongoing.
