Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets Nepali Foreign Minister Sisir Khanal in Beijing

Beijing. Bilateral talks were held between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Sisir Khanal in Beijing. In the meeting held on Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang said that China has always placed the relationship with Nepal in an important position in its neighborhood diplomacy.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, clarified that China has adopted a friendly policy towards all Nepali people. He said that China will always cooperate in protecting Nepal's national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and in charting a development path in line with Nepal's own national circumstances.

Wang said that China is willing to advance high-quality Belt and Road (BRI) cooperation with Nepal. He pledged to help transform Nepal from a landlocked country to a land-linked country by focusing on cooperation in electricity transmission lines, highways, border crossings, and aviation. He emphasized that for this, both sides should make full use of various cooperation mechanisms, deepen practical cooperation, and promote cultural exchanges.

Stating that China is encouraging its enterprises and companies to invest and trade in Nepal, Wang expressed confidence that Nepal will also provide a more equitable and transparent business environment for them.

In response, Foreign Minister Sisir Khanal expressed gratitude for the long-standing cooperation provided by China in improving Nepal's national development and people's livelihoods. He mentioned that China has always treated Nepal equally and respected its sovereignty and independence.

Khanal said, 'Nepal is firm on the One China policy, supports China's efforts to achieve complete unification, and will not allow any force to use Nepali territory against China's interests.'

Stating that China's development is also an opportunity for Nepal, Khanal welcomed Chinese investment. He said that Nepal is ready to provide a fair, law-based, and friendly business environment for Chinese investors. He also clarified that Nepal fully supports the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and supports the global initiatives proposed by China.

After the meeting, Minister Khanal wrote on social media X that the meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister was fruitful. He informed that detailed discussions were held on all dimensions of bilateral relations, including connectivity, border management, trade, technology transfer, and multilateral cooperation. He also mentioned that ideas were exchanged on expanding people-to-people relations and a common commitment was expressed to further strengthen Nepal-China relations for the mutual benefit of both countries.
