Former PM Jhalanath Khanal Expresses Joy Over Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola Tunnel Inauguration

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has expressed happiness over the operation of the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel.

Khanal, who is in Beijing, China, stated in a social media post that the visionary national resolve he initiated has come to reality.

He mentioned that he had personally experienced the suffering and traffic jam endured by millions of citizens entering and exiting the Kathmandu Valley. He recalled that the first file he signed on the day he took office as Prime Minister on January 23, 2011 (Bikram Sambat) was the construction of the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel.

He stated that the project was approved by the Council of Ministers on January 27, 2011 (Bikram Sambat) and a policy-level decision was made to advance it in 2011 (Bikram Sambat). He informed that budget was allocated for its implementation through the budget of the fiscal year 2011/12.

He expressed the view that this tunnel has now been established as a symbol of foresight, unwavering determination, policy continuity, and national commitment.

He stated that nation-building is the result of continuity, cooperation, and collective responsibility. He expressed gratitude to the governments of various times, workers, technicians, employees, and the Japanese government for their contribution to completing the project.

Khanal believes that this tunnel marks the beginning of a new era in Nepal's infrastructure development. He stated that it will provide a safe, easy, and modern transportation system, strengthen the national economy, and give new momentum to the overall development journey.
