Six National Assembly Members from Nepali Congress Fail to Renew Active Membership

Six National Assembly members from the Nepali Congress have been found not to have renewed their active membership. They were in the group of former President Sher Bahadur Deuba and did not 'digitally update' their party membership by the deadline of 12 AM on Jestha 28, according to sources at the Congress Central Office. The Congress Active Membership Management Committee had set this deadline.

According to the Active Membership Management Committee and Central Office sources, National Assembly members Krishna Prasad Poudel, Khamb Bahadur Khatri, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, Jeet Jung Basnet, Jagat Timilsina, and Lalit Jung Shahi have not updated their membership. Poudel was the Chief Secretary of the party's central office after Deuba became president in the 13th and 14th general conventions. After the Gagan Thapa-led committee, elected in the special general convention held in the last week of Poush, was recognized by the Election Commission, Poudel resigned from his post as Chief Secretary. Rokaya was the Chief Whip in the National Assembly. However, after the general election held on Falgun 21, the leader of the party's House of Representatives parliamentary party, Bhimraj Angdembe, removed Rokaya and gave the responsibility to Padam Bahadur Pariyar. Poudel is the Chairperson of the Development, Economic Affairs, and Public Policy Committee, while Rokaya is the Chairperson of the Law Management Committee. Khatri was the Attorney General when Deuba was last Prime Minister. Basnet is an individual who won as a central member from Deuba's panel in the 14th general convention.

Shahi is the current Karnali Province President of the Congress, and Timilsina, who is the President of the Professors' Association close to the Congress, has also not 'digitally updated' their active party membership. Apart from them, most leaders elected to the office bearers and central committee from the 14th general convention and who did not support the special general convention held in the last week of Poush have not 'digitally updated' their membership.

Among those who did not update are former President Deuba, leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala, former Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, office bearers from the 14th general convention including Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, Joint General Secretaries Mahalakshmi Upadhya 'Dina', Umakant Chaudhary, Kishore Singh Rathor, and Badri Pandey. Former Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, former Publicity Department Chief Min Bishwakarma, former Vice Presidents Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh, and former General Secretaries Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Dr. Shashank Koirala, among other leaders, have also not updated their membership, according to the Active Membership Management Committee.

The Deuba and Shekhar groups have stated that they have already renewed their membership for the 15th general convention, so there is no need to update. However, the establishment has already decided that those who do not update their active membership will not be able to participate in the 15th general convention.

The Active Membership Management Committee, in its meeting on Jestha 30, has requested those who missed renewing their active membership for various reasons and wish to continue their membership to submit an application with proof to the central office by Ashar 20. The committee's decision states, 'If any active member has missed renewal and update from the ward level within the stipulated time for updating active membership due to various reasons, and wishes to continue their update, they can submit an application to the central office with proof of being an active member by Ashar 20, 2083.'
