International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations Observed Worldwide

Kathmandu. Today, the 'International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations' is being celebrated worldwide. This day has been started to be celebrated with the aim of promoting mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation among civilizations and cultures amidst growing conflicts, inequality, mistrust, and development challenges in the world.

The United Nations General Assembly, by passing a resolution on June 7, 2024, decided to celebrate June 10 every year as the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations. This proposal, proposed by China, was supported by more than 80 countries.

According to the United Nations, dialogue among civilizations helps to remove discrimination, prejudice, and misconceptions. It also plays an important role in building trust, understanding, and friendly relations among different nations, cultures, and communities. Dialogue is considered an effective means for world peace, shared development, human welfare, and prosperity.

On this occasion, the global community has been called upon to respect civilizational diversity as the common heritage of mankind and to further strengthen mutual tolerance, goodwill, and intercultural dialogue. The United Nations has expressed confidence that cooperation among diverse civilizations and cultures will contribute to building a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous world.
