President Paudel Emphasizes Language, Literature, and Culture as Identity

Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Paudel has stated that our language, literature, and culture are our original identity and pride. Addressing a program organized on the occasion of the 115th birth anniversary of Yugakabi Siddhi Charan Shrestha on Friday, he mentioned that literary creation is not just an expression of emotion but also an important medium for making society conscious, aware, and sensitive.

President Paudel said, ‘It contributes significantly to a civilized and cultured society by inspiring our society, public life, democratic values, transformation, change, patriotism, and social justice. Furthermore, I believe that literature has the power to connect society, make it aware, and move it towards a bright future.’

Recalling the contribution of Yugakabi Siddhi Charan Shrestha to the development of Nepali language, literature, public consciousness, and national sentiment, President Paudel said, ‘Today's new generation needs to understand Yugakabi Siddhi Charan Shrestha not just as a poet of history, but as a source of inspiration for consciousness, courage, creativity, patriotism, and human values. His contribution to the enrichment of Nepali literature is significant. He was a unique literary personality who expressed the consciousness of his time, the sensibilities of society, and the aspirations for change through words.’

He stated that even in the difficult social and political circumstances of that time, Yugakabi Shrestha conveyed messages of freedom, justice, humanity, national self-respect, and public consciousness through literature. He said, ‘From the painful incident of not being able to attend his father's funeral rites due to facing a long and arduous prison sentence because of conscious literary expression and fearless ideas, his life's struggle, sacrifice, and dedication to literature can be understood.’

President Paudel mentioned that among Yugakabi Siddhi Charan Shrestha's poems, which contain deep love for the motherland, faith in the nation, and sensitivity towards Nepali public life, his composition ‘Mero Pyaro Okhaldhunga’ has established an unforgettable place in Nepali literature for its profound love for the motherland.

Dr. Dubsu Chhetri and Dr. Gargee Sharma were honored with the Yugakabi Siddhi Charan Award at the program.
