Filmmaker Amit Jani Responds to Salman Khan's Legal Notice Over 'Kala Hiran'

Mumbai. Amidst the growing controversy surrounding the film 'Kala Hiran', its producer Amit Jani has responded to the notice sent by Bollywood actor Salman Khan's legal team.

Posting a video on his official Facebook account, producer Jani clarified that their entire film is not a biopic of Salman Khan. He stated that this film is not being made solely from Salman Khan's perspective.

Producer Jani said in the video, 'A notice has been sent by Salman Khan's legal team, pressuring us to stop the screening of the film and the teaser scheduled to be released on June 20.'

Meanwhile, in a conversation with ABP News, Jani said that the film 'Kala Hiran' is about to portray the struggle of the Bishnoi community, their heritage, and their dedication to wildlife. He claimed that Salman Khan is only a part of the story in this film.

Earlier, a legal notice was sent on behalf of Salman Khan regarding the film 'Kala Hiran'. According to media reports, the law firm DSK Legal sent a legal notice to casting director Akshay Pandey on behalf of Salman.

The notice demanded to immediately stop the production and promotion of the proposed film 'Kala Hiran'. Salman's legal team claimed that this film is allegedly inspired by Salman Khan's old black deer hunting case, which could affect Salman's image, disrupt ongoing legal proceedings, and violate his personal rights. The notice stated that the actor Salman has not given permission to use his name, identity, or any events related to him.

The poster of this film, said to be based on the black deer hunting case related to Salman Khan, was released last Friday. The production house has already announced that its first look and teaser will be released on June 20.

There is also talk that the film will depict the dispute between Salman Khan and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. However, who will play the main role in the film has been kept secret so far. The actors seen in the released poster appear to be new faces.

This much-talked-about 'Black Deer Hunting Case' related to Salman Khan is from 1998, when he was shooting for the film 'Hum Saath-Saath Hain' in Jodhpur. At that time, four cases were registered against him, including two for Chinkara hunting, one for Kankani black deer hunting, and one under the Arms Act.

Based on the complaint of the Bishnoi community, cases were registered not only against Salman but also against actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, and Neelam. In this case, Salman was first arrested on October 12, 1998, and later released on bail.

In April 2006, Salman was sentenced in the Chinkara hunting case, and in January 2017, he was acquitted in the Arms Act case. Similarly, on April 5, 2018, the court sentenced Salman to 5 years in jail and a fine of Rs 10,000 in the black deer hunting case.

Other actors involved in the same case were acquitted. Although sentenced, Salman later received bail. Currently, this case is pending in the Rajasthan High Court. After the last hearing in May 2026, the court has set the next hearing for July 13, 2026. Actor Salman Khan is currently out on bail.
