Electric Vehicle Imports Surge 143% Through Birgunj

Parsa. In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, electric vehicles worth more than Rs 4.02 billion have been imported through Birgunj.

Compared to the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, the import of electric vehicles in the current fiscal year has increased by Rs 2.37 billion, or 143.60 percent, in terms of value. Udaya Singh Bisht, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, said that 15,271 electric vehicles of various types were imported through the Birgunj border in the current fiscal year, and the revenue generated from it has increased significantly.

In the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, 9,042 electric vehicles worth Rs 1.65 billion were imported through this border. Rs 814.7 million in revenue was collected for that.

In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, 657 electric cars, jeeps, and vans with a capacity of 51 kW to 100 kW worth Rs 1.87 billion were imported. Rs 1.19 billion in revenue has been collected for that. Whereas in the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, only six electric jeeps, cars, and vans with a capacity of 51 kW to 100 kW worth Rs 20.6 million were imported.

Similarly, in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, 8,867 electric motorcycles and scooters worth Rs 1.17 billion were imported, generating Rs 385.5 million in revenue. In the same period last fiscal year, 4,834 electric motorcycles and scooters worth Rs 10.96 million were imported. Revenue of Rs 201.5 million was collected from the import of these vehicles alone.

Information Officer Bisht informed that vehicles and parts running on fuel and electricity worth Rs 31.31 billion have entered through this border in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

Compared to the first 10 months of the last fiscal year, the import of vehicles and parts has increased by Rs 9.65 billion, or 44.58 percent, in terms of value in the same period of the current fiscal year. In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, 628 jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 1.25 billion were imported through Birgunj. The office has collected Rs 3.17 billion in revenue for that. Whereas in the same period last fiscal year, 855 jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 1.81 billion were imported.

Similarly, in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, 51,423 motorcycles (un-assembled) worth Rs 7.32 billion have been imported. Rs 7.09 billion in revenue has been collected for that. In the same period last fiscal year, motorcycles worth Rs 5.21 billion were imported.
