Weather Forecast: Extreme Heat in Western Plains, Thunderstorms in Eastern Hills

Kathmandu. According to the latest forecast from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, two different weather conditions will be observed in the country today.

Extreme heat will prevail in the Terai and hilly areas of the western part of the country, while thunderstorms and lightning are forecast in the central and eastern hilly regions. There is a possibility of a heatwave in the Terai regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, which is likely to affect the daily lives of the people in those areas.

Extreme heat will be felt in the major cities of the western Terai today. According to the weather forecast, the maximum temperature in Dipayal, Dhangadhi, and Nepalgunj is estimated to reach between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius. A heatwave will occur in these cities during the day, with a zero percent chance of rain.

Similarly, the temperature in Birendranagar is forecast to reach between 37 and 39 degrees, Bhairahawa between 38 and 40 degrees, and Dang's Ghorahi between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. These areas will experience a 'hot day' today, while the weather will remain mostly clear at night. In Dadeldhura, a hilly district in Sudurpashchim, light rain is expected with a 20 percent chance of rain during the day.

On the other hand, rain is expected in the central and eastern parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley. In Kathmandu, moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is forecast for both the afternoon and night, with a 40 percent chance of rain in the afternoon and 30 percent at night. The maximum temperature in Kathmandu will be between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius.

In the tourist city of Pokhara, the chance of rain is highest today, at 60 percent during the afternoon. Moderate rain with thunderstorms will occur during both the afternoon and night, with temperatures between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius.

Similarly, moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is possible in the hilly and mountainous cities of Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Jiri, and Taplejung. Specifically, Okhaldhunga, Jiri, and Taplejung have a 60 percent chance of rain in the afternoon. Jumla in Karnali Province will experience moderate rain with a 30 percent chance during the day, and the temperature will be between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.

In other Terai cities like Simara and Janakpur, there will be partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, with temperatures reaching between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius. However, there is a 20 percent chance of moderate rain with thunderstorms in Janakpur at night. Eastern Terai cities like Biratnagar and Dharan are forecast to have light rain with a 30 percent chance in the afternoon and moderate rain at night.
