Speaker Calls Meeting of Chief Whips to Discuss House Agenda

Kathmandu. Speaker Dolprasad Aryal has called a meeting of the chief whips of the political parties represented in the House of Representatives on Monday morning.

The Speaker has convened this meeting to discuss the agenda of the House as the old Business Advisory Committee has been automatically dissolved with the arrival of the new House of Representatives Operating Regulations and a new committee could not be formed.

Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Ekram Giri, informed that the Speaker has called a meeting of the chief whips at 9:30 AM on Monday at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singh Durbar. Until now, the House of Representatives has been operating under the House of Representatives Regulations 2079, but on Jestha 17, the House of Representatives Regulations 2083 was passed by a majority of the ruling party amidst the opposition parties surrounding the well. Since then, the opposition parties have not allowed the House to proceed with the agenda, and a new Business Advisory Committee has not been formed.

The opposition parties have been demanding that Prime Minister Balen Shah's statement on Jestha 17, saying 'Nepal has also encroached upon India's border,' should be removed from the parliamentary record and that he should come to the House and apologize. Taking this demand as the reason, the opposition has been continuously obstructing the House.

The meeting of the House of Representatives has been called for 11 AM on Monday after Jestha 19, and the Speaker is going to discuss with the chief whips to set the agenda and end the deadlock.
