Nepal-China Border Security Meeting Held in Upper Mustang

Mustang. The Nepal-China Border Security Coordination Meeting was held on Friday in Lo-Manthang of Upper Mustang.

A joint border security coordination meeting was held in Lo-Manthang of Upper Mustang between the Public Security Bureau of Zhongba County, Tibet, China, and the local security officials and people's representatives of Mustang from Nepal's side.

Eight Chinese representatives from the Public Security Bureau of Zhongba County participated in the meeting. The Chinese delegation included Deputy County Chief of the People's Government of Zhongba County Dunzhu Yujie, Director of the Security Bureau Loying, Foreign Liaison Officer of the County Security Bureau Sieren Zhaxi, and five staff members from the Public Security Bureau of Zhongba County.

From the Nepali side, Chief District Officer of Mustang Ajita Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhiring Kipa Lama, and Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Bhavesh Giri were present. Similarly, the Nepal-China Joint Border Security Coordination Meeting was attended by Lho-Ghekar-Damodarkunda Rural Municipality Chairman Lopsang Chhomphel Bisht and Lo-Manthang Rural Municipality Vice-Chairperson Chhumi Bisht.

Chief District Officer of Mustang Ajita Sharma informed that discussions were held on bilateral issues of mutual interest at the Nepal-China Joint Border Security Meeting held in Lo-Manthang. CDO Sharma stated that verbal discussions were held on border security in the Korala naka area, how to facilitate border security and movement at the Korala naka, and how to play a role in controlling potential crimes, smuggling, and undesirable activities in the border areas.

Similarly, CDO Sharma mentioned that discussions were held on making the relationship between the local people's governments and administrations of the two countries more effective and refined in the coming days.

The facilitation of the (Nepal-China) Joint Security Coordination Meeting held in Lo-Manthang was done by Lho-Ghekar-Damodarkunda Rural Municipality Chairman Lopsang Chhomphel Bisht. Rural Municipality Chairman Bisht mentioned that a verbal agreement was reached to improve and further refine the harmonious relationship between the local people's governments and administrations of the two countries at the Nepal-China Korala border. It has been pledged that the local security officials and people's representatives of both countries will work together with mutual coordination and cooperation to address the problems and challenges seen in the border areas.

There is a tradition of holding a rotational coordination meeting annually between the security officials and local people's representatives of Nepal and China at the northern Korala border. In August of the current year, the Nepal-China Joint Security Coordination Meeting was held in Zhongba County, Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

The Chinese team arrived in Lo-Manthang of Mustang via the Korala naka for the meeting. Similarly, the team of security chiefs, including Mustang Chief District Officer Sharma, had also reached Lo-Manthang for the meeting on Thursday.
