Nepal-China Facilitation Mechanism Meeting Set for June 2026 in Nepal

Kathmandu. The third meeting of the facilitation mechanism regarding projects between Nepal and China is scheduled to be held in Nepal in June 2026. This meeting is being held in accordance with the 'Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Facilitation Mechanism for the Implementation of Nepal-China Cooperation Programs and Projects' signed between the two countries on June 21, 2018. According to information provided by Lokendra Bahadur Chhetri, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nepali side will be led by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, while the Chinese side will be co-chaired by the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal. The meeting will review the progress of various development projects being implemented in Nepal with the assistance of the Chinese government and will hold concrete discussions on their effective implementation. Meanwhile, the government has intensified the rescue of Nepalis held captive in online scamming centers operating illegally in various countries in Southeast Asia. With strong coordination from Nepali missions in Thailand and Myanmar and local government bodies, an additional 71 Nepalis have been rescued and safely returned to Nepal in the last two weeks. The ministry has stated that 616 people have been rescued prior to this. Of the total rescued so far, 562 are from Cambodia, 111 from Myanmar, 8 from Laos, and 6 from Thailand. The ministry also provided information regarding the government's agenda on governance reform. Out of the 100-point agenda approved by the Council of Ministers, 24 points were under the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry clarified that 11 of these points have been fully completed, while the remaining 13 points are ongoing.
