Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Lima Adhikari Acharya Demands Immediate Payment for Agricultural Produce

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Lima Adhikari Acharya has demanded that the government make arrangements for farmers to be paid immediately for their agricultural produce. Speaking in the zero hour of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Acharya demanded that legal provisions be made for farmers to receive payment for their produce within 15 days. "I demand from the government that a legal guarantee be made for the mandatory settlement of farmers' payments within 15 days," she said. She stated that due to farmers not receiving payment for produce such as milk, sugarcane, and paddy, the youth are forced to go to the Gulf countries for employment. "More than 14 crore rupees are outstanding for milk-producing farmers in Makwanpur. This is not just for one district; Mr. Speaker, this is the common fate of many producing farmers of sugarcane, milk, paddy, etc., across the country," Acharya said. "When a farmer has to wait for months-years for the value of their sweat, how can they pay on time for cattle feed and their children's school fees? That is why today energetic youth are forced to leave their fertile land fallow and go to the deserts of the Gulf. Prosperity can never be brought to the country by emptying the pockets of farmers. She emphasized that the country needs not only food grains but also food self-sufficiency.
