Nepal Weather: Heatwave in West, Rain in East

Kathmandu. Today, Thursday, two different forms of weather will be seen in various parts of the country.

On one hand, extreme heat is likely to increase in the hilly and terai regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces, while rain with thunderstorms is forecast in the central and eastern parts of the country, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

During the afternoon, especially in the cities of the western region, a 'hot day' will be felt. According to the forecast, the maximum temperature in Dipayal, Dhangadhi, and Nepalgunj will reach 39 to 41 degrees Celsius. The probability of rain in these cities is zero percent.

Similarly, the temperature in Birendranagar will reach 37 to 39 degrees Celsius, and in Dang's Ghorahi, it will reach 34 to 36 degrees. Bhairahawa, which will experience extreme heat during the day, is expected to have light rain with thunderstorms and lightning with a 20 percent chance during the night. The weather in most cities in the western region will remain mainly clear at night. Although there will be partial cloud cover throughout the day in Dadeldhura, Jumla, and Simara, there is no possibility of rain.

On the other hand, there is a possibility of rain in many cities in the central and eastern hilly and terai regions. In the federal capital Kathmandu, there will be light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning with a 30 percent chance in the afternoon and a 20 percent chance at night. The maximum temperature in Kathmandu will be between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius. In the tourist city of Pokhara, there will be moderate rain with a 40 percent chance in the afternoon and light rain with a 30 percent chance at night.

Similarly, in Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, and Taplejung in eastern Nepal, moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is forecast with a 40 percent chance in the afternoon. In the terai city of Biratnagar, although the maximum temperature will reach 34 to 36 degrees Celsius, there will be moderate rain with a 30 percent chance both in the afternoon and at night.

Jomsom, Dharan, Janakpur, and Jiri will also experience light rain with a 20 to 30 percent chance during the afternoon. Moderate rain is expected to continue in Dharan, Dhankuta, and Biratnagar in the east during the night as well, according to the forecast.
