Four Arrested for Embezzling Millions by Promising Foreign Employment

Kathmandu. Police have arrested four people on charges of embezzling millions of rupees by luring people with promises of sending them abroad for employment. The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested them from various places in Kathmandu and Lalitpur and made them public.

Those arrested include 30-year-old Dipesh Gurung and 24-year-old Saugat Gurung, originally from Gorkha's Barpak Sulikot and currently residing in Kathmandu-26. According to the police, they defrauded 8 victims of a total of 8,622,570 rupees by promising to send them to Turkey. They were arrested on Jestha 5 from the Samakhushi area of Kathmandu.

Similarly, Surya Prakash Khejum, 48, from Phidim, Panchthar, has been arrested on charges of defrauding one victim of 950,000 rupees by promising to send them to Cyprus. He was taken into custody from Godawari, Lalitpur.

Shanti Shrestha, 33, from Bhumlu, Kavrepalanchok, has also been arrested by the police on charges of defrauding 193,000 rupees by promising to send them to Lithuania. She was arrested on Jestha 6 from Gyaneshwor, Kathmandu, informed Ramshwar Karki, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Information Officer at the office.

It has been revealed from police investigation that all those arrested had lured unemployed youths with promises of attractive salaries, kept them waiting for a long time, and became unreachable after taking the money. Based on the complaints of the victims, the arrested individuals have been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, for further investigation and action, the police said.
