Nepali Films Release Schedule and Box Office Performance

Kathmandu. The film 'Pahad', released with much fanfare on April 1 on the occasion of the new year, could not get the expected audience support.

The film, which was expected to do good business, proved to be a failure at the box office, but the film 'Paral ko Aago', released on April 11, broke the silence that had gripped the film industry. The film, which is doing business of 4 crore by the third week of its release, has already secured its investment. The business from now on is entirely profit.

The film 'Paral ko Aago', based on Guruprasad Mainali's famous story, features the acting of Saugat Malla, Prakash Saput, Suhana Thapa, Sirjana Adhikari, Shankar Acharya, Kishor Bhandari, etc. The audience was attracted to the film because of its original story and the depiction of the Nepali social context.

Three films released towards the end of Baisakh; 'Lalibazaar', 'Malati Mangale', and 'Guruaama' are currently showing. Although the production unit claims that the initial business of all three films has been encouraging, it will take a few more days to know how much profit the films will make and whether they will secure their investment.

6 new Nepali films are also coming in Jestha. They are - 'Ek Muthi Badal', 'Life Damage', 'Kaji', 'Mitjyu', 'Roll No. 1' and 'Kumbha'. Among these, 'Ek Muthi Badal' and 'Life Damage' will clash on Jestha 1, 'Kaji' and 'Mitjyu' on Jestha 8, and 'Roll No. 1' and 'Kumbha' on Jestha 15. There is no release schedule for any film on the fourth Friday of Jestha, the 21st, and the fifth Friday, the 28th.

• Message in a Family Story

Two films, 'Ek Muthi Badal' and 'Life Damage', will clash on the first day of Jestha, the 1st. Both films, with different stories and actors, are said to have family stories.

'Ek Muthi Badal' is a film that highlights the dowry system and family complexities deeply entrenched in Nepali society. The director is confident that this film will offer a new taste to the audience as fantasy genre films are rarely made in Nepali cinema. The film has been directed by Nimesh Shrestha.

• Clash of Stars

In the second week of Jestha, on the 8th, 'Kaji' and 'Mitjyu' are set to be released. Through these two films, the big stars of recent times, Bipin Karki, Dayahang Rai, and Saugat Malla, will clash with each other.

'Kaji' is a film starring the versatile actor Bipin Karki in the lead role. Directed by Laxman Rizal, this film is said to be a 'classic love story'. Besides Bipin, the film also features the acting of Keki Adhikari, Garima Sharma, Prakash Ghimire, and Hemant Budhathoki. Pradip Bhardwaj has written the film, and Kaliprasad Baskota has composed the music. The film has been produced under the banner of Rizal & Rizal Production.

In the third week of Jestha, on Jestha 15 (Republic Day), two films of different genres will be released. The films are 'Roll No. 1' and 'Kumbha'. 'Roll No. 1' has been produced by Binod Poudel, the producer of the successful film 'Purna Bahadur ko Sarangi'. The film, which portrays the malpractices in the education sector, has been directed by John Yonjan. The film raises the issue of how government scholarships and the pressure to be Roll Number 1 affect child psychology.

This film, starring Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi, and Sirjana Adhikari in lead roles, is especially targeted at parents and students. The producer claims that this film, shot in the beautiful landscapes of Myagdi, will create social debate.

'Kumbha', on the other hand, is an Indo-Nepal collaboration film. The film, a blend of action and love story, is the debut direction of Randhir Shrestha, who has worked in music videos for a long time. It features the acting of South Indian actor Surendra Thakur and a making style similar to South Indian films. The film, starring Ashok Aryan, Sunil Thapa, and Sushil Pokharel in lead roles, will be released in both Nepali and Hindi languages.
