Authorities deploy dozers to clear unauthorized settlement along Manohara River

Bhaktapur. More than a dozen dozers have been deployed to remove unauthorized houses and huts in the squatter settlement along the banks of the Manohara River.

Starting early this morning, 1,300 Nepal Police personnel and 600 Armed Police Force personnel were mobilized to begin the demolition of the structures. District Police Range Chief and Superintendent of Police Surya Bahadur Khadka stated that after an attack on the dozers yesterday evening, security was tightened this morning to proceed with the removal of the huts.

There are 777 houses and huts in this settlement. Seven large concrete houses were also demolished on Saturday evening. During that process, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel faced obstruction. However, the demolition proceeded peacefully today.

During the operation, security personnel are assisting with moving belongings and rescuing the sick.
