Squatters protest at RSP office as government moves to clear riverbank settlements

Kathmandu. As the government prepares to clear squatter settlements along the riverbanks of the valley, affected locals have taken to the streets in protest. Squatters reached the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) office on Friday, demanding a halt to the decision to deploy bulldozers.

In anticipation of potential tension from the protests, a heavy presence of security personnel has been deployed around the office premises, and security measures have been tightened. Following government directives, police began making public announcements in the affected areas starting Thursday evening. 

Squatters have been notified to vacate the settlements by Friday evening. It is reported that public announcements will continue throughout the day today, with preparations underway to begin bulldozer operations early Saturday morning. Photo: Nepal Photo Library
