Nepal-Britain Writers Association Formed to Foster Literary Ties

London. The 'Nepal-Britain Writers Association' has been formally established under the chairmanship of Dr. Durga Bahadur Subedi (Dubasu Chhetri), former Nepali Ambassador to the UK. Aimed at promoting the exchange of literature, language, and culture between Nepal and the UK, the association is expected to open new avenues for collaboration between the literary communities of both nations.

The association plans to facilitate the exchange of linguistic, literary, and cultural programs. Its objectives include the translation and publication of outstanding literary works from both countries, bilateral literary and cultural visits, and the organization of literary festivals, interactions, and conferences.

Dr. Dubasu Chhetri has been elected as the president of the newly formed association. The executive committee includes Senior Vice President Suresh Jung Shah, Vice Presidents Dr. Gopal Paudyal, Bimal Bhaukaji, Krisu Chhetri, and Gopi Krishna Prasai. Birendra Kunwar serves as General Secretary, with Nagendra Raj Regmi and Badri Prasad Dhakal as Secretaries, and Punam Chhetri as Treasurer.

The members include Tulsi Hari Koirala, Mohan Bir Thapa, Dr. Navaraj Rijal, Bheshraj Ghimire, Laxmi Upreti, Sandhya Pahadi, Mani Lohani, Bharat Bhardwaj, Manoj Neupane, Rajesh Jung Shah, Narad Paudel, Tara Subedi, Suman Karki, Bhagwati Basnet, Suman Barsha, Lalita Doshi, Bimala Tumkhewa, Bhuwan Maskey, Kishor Upreti, Bharat Saud, Meghendra Bishwakarma, and Yuvak Upreti.

Established to institutionalize literary relations between Nepal and the UK, the association aims to foster closer ties among creators, readers, and literature enthusiasts in both countries.

Dr. Dubasu Chhetri served as the Nepali Ambassador to the UK from 2016 to 2021. During his tenure, he maintained close ties with the Nepali diaspora in the UK as a creator and literature enthusiast.

He expressed his joy in being involved in academic, intellectual, literary, and cultural activities that enhance the identity and prestige of Nepal and the Nepali people.

He also emphasized that the preservation and promotion of Nepali language, art, literature, music, traditions, and culture are essential to keeping the Nepali community in the UK vibrant and dynamic.

During his ambassadorship, the Nepali Embassy collaborated with the Nepali community in the UK to initiate a renaissance in the fields of language, literature, music, culture, and art through various programs.
