Sudurpashchim Chief Minister Shah Calls for Early Provincial and Local Elections

Dhangadhi. Sudurpashchim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has stated that provincial and local level elections must be held immediately in accordance with the new mandate. He made these remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with officials from the Federation of Nepali Journalists, provincial and Kailali district chapters, at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers. 

Chief Minister Shah noted that just as a new government was formed at the federal level in line with the spirit of the youth movement on Bhadau 23 and 24, it is essential to hold new elections at the provincial and local levels as well.

'For a new mandate, provincial and local elections should be held as soon as possible; the federal government must create the necessary environment for the polls,' he said.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Shah affirmed that the provincial government remains steadfast in its support for press freedom and freedom of expression. During his conversation with journalists, he also pledged that the government will always respect citizens' right to free speech and independent journalism.
