Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel Defends Asset Disclosure Amid Public Scrutiny

Kathmandu. Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel has stated that he practiced transparency by making his asset details public. He addressed the matter via a Facebook post on Monday night following criticism regarding the details released on Sunday.

Minister Pokharel emphasized that transparency is the most powerful weapon against corruption and reaffirmed his firm belief in the practice.

He claimed that in accordance with this principle, he made every effort to ensure his asset disclosure was as comprehensive and transparent as possible.

Minister Pokharel stated: ‘I have disclosed not only my personal assets but also those of my father, mother, and maternal family. I have even included my father's vehicles. Technically, it would have been sufficient to show only my personal assets, but I chose to disclose all details to practice full transparency.’ 

Minister Pokharel clarified that all these assets were earned through the honest hard work of his family and stated that he has nothing to fear. Regarding the purchase of land in Kathmandu, he mentioned that he listed the current market value to maintain transparency.
